Survey checklist

This is a checklist that we’ve prepared to help us go through with a survey of our Janna, Hallberg-Rassy 31 Monsun.

We were inexperienced, barely have we ever been on a sailboat. But our future boat was in Singapore and soon we’ve learnt that it’s not exactly easy to find a good marine surveyor that would make a good survey of a sailboat. Most of the people we have approached would charge US $1000/day, one day for survey and another day for report… This is lot of money, but as inexperienced as we were, there seemed to be no other choice. Just couple of days before we hired the surveyor, the previous owner has sent us his survey report and it was from the same person we were about to hire! It was horrible. Something in the line of: the boat has a golden stripe, three sails, it seems to be in a good condition. This was work of professinal marine surveyor who works for big money!

Atheros AR242x 802.11abg Wireless in linux

After reading all the pages on Thinkwiki and number of others how to install Madwifi driver for Atheros AR242x 802.11abg Wireless card on our Lenovo Thinkpad X61 and trying even ndiswrapper I finally stumbled upon the solution. Apparently this particular card has an unsupported chipset. But it can be made to work by following these steps:

Nový počátek aneb Jak jsme začali plachtit

Jedno pozdní odpoledne zachrastily v zámku klíče. Pomalu se skutálela první slza. Pak druhá. Nebylo to poprvé. Vždy jednou za čas nás pobyt ve společnosti začal hodně unavovat. Každý jsme na to vyčerpání reagovali jinak. Janička slzami, já jsem vrčel. Nesmyslné konvence a hlavně pokrytectví nás doháněly na pokraj zoufalství.
