Can you update it so that it supports zotero as a tab. you just have to overlay zoteroPane.xul instead of browser.xul (see here: http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/zotero_2.1_and_zotero_standalone_for_developers)
I think you still have to include the line to to overlay browser.xul for backward compatibility. These two lines in the chrome.manifest should do the job:

overlay chrome://browser/content/browser.xul chrome://lyz/content/overlay.xul
overlay chrome://zotero/content/zoteroPane.xul chrome://lyz/content/overlay.xul
