One idle afternoon I have looked at GNOME, which I haven’t used for a while. Debian menu was missing. Took me a while, but solution is found:
$ apt-get install menu-xdg
$ dpkg-reconfigure menu
$ dpkg-reconfigure menu-xdg
Then System/Preferences/Main Menu and select Debian menu.
Life is suddenly easier, ain’t it?
Great lightweight editor that supports Unicode, but seems to be neglected by Linux distros, since starting e.g. screen (what would really our life be like without it…) raises only:
Cannot find terminfo entry for ‘rxvt-unicode’
Remedy:
$ cat “URxvt*termName: rxvt” ~/.Xdefaults
